Hope For Hailey Kennedy

Donation protected

Hailey Kennedy is a 13 year old young lady, the daughter of Tim and Aimee Kennedy, longtime residents
and business owners of Delray Beach. Hailey is a student at the prestigious Bak Middle School of the
Performing Arts.  Hailey is an excellent student and a gifted singer.
Sadly, This past Thursday after a doctor's visit for concerns over recent weight loss, Hailey was
diagnosed with AML leukemia. Hailey must begin treatment immediately and Friday was admitted to
the St. Jude's Children's' Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Yesterday Hailey had to undergo her second
bone marrow aspiration and a port is being put in place and she will immediately begin intensive
chemotherapy.  Her doctors expect a minimum 6 month treatment protocol.  AML leukemia is an
aggressive form of leukemia and there is no time to delay and no guarantee on her treatment duration.
Unfortunately, Hailey's story actually begins just over two months ago.  In early November, Tim, who
owns and operates Revive-a Roof  a low pressure roof cleaning business, fell while working
approximately 14 feet from a ladder straight onto the concrete below.  Tim was extremely lucky that the
fall did not kill him.  After a 2 week hospital stay in Trauma ICU, with the entire right side of his rib cage
broken and multiple contusions Tim is still not one hundred percent recovered nor working at full
capacity.
With her husband still recovering in ICU, Aimee Kennedy, too suffered a freak accident. While cleaning
up some yard clippings, Aimee's hand was badly punctured by a bougainvillea pricker.  At first Aimee did
not think much of it other than is was very painful.  Amy returned to the hospital shortly thereafter to
visit Tim and her hand was now hurting more and beginning to blow up.  Within just a few hours a fluke
injury ended in emergency surgery Aimee had punctured the tendon sheath. Infection was setting in and
they were not sure if they could save Aimee's finger or even perhaps, her hand.
Tim was discharged the next day and Aimee remained in the hospital for a week and had to undergo a
second surgical procedure or again risk losing her finger or hand.  When Aimee finally returned home,
Tim could not help Amy and Amy could not help Tim.  The family was just finally getting back to some
sense of normalcy and now Hailey is diagnosed with AML.
The family' need is great.  Tim's business is small and like so many other business owners, the economy
has hit Tim's income.  Tim has returned to work but not at full capacity, his one employee has been
trying to pick up the physical work load. Aimee had been on a leave of absence because her job as a
Neuro-tech in a group of neurologist's office requires her to operate special testing equipment and she
needs her hands to perform her job. Aimee had been back to work for a few weeks but Aimee has now
had to resign to relocate to Tennessee with Hailey for treatment that will last at least six months.  In
addition, though the whole family has medical insurance through Aimee's job, now that she has had to
resign, they will have the additional challenge of paying for their own medical insurance.
