1st Annual Active 20-30 of Washsington D.C. Gala
Bennett Park Art Atrium, Cocktail
April 1, 2017 7-10pm; Open Bar.

Active 20-30 is a 501-c(3) non-profit of young adults who are looking to improve the quality of life for the underserved children in the D.C. Metro Area, while creating long lasting friendships and developing leadership skills for our own intrinsic growth.

With the exception of dues paid to our international organization, almost all fundraising proceeds are spent directly on community projects. Examples of our work in 2016 include:

CentroNía

CentroNía is a Washington DC charter pre-school providing affordable, high-quality education and family support services to more than 2,400 low-income children and families in the District. CentroNía's holistic approach ensures that their children and families receive the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically, develop a strong sense of community, and live healthy and active lives. The majority of children CentroNía serves immigrated here with their families and many are English Language Learners (ELLs). CentroNía also provides community engagement services that include programs for the local community during school breaks, tutoring, and a bilingual community library. Active 20-30 of Washington DC started our partnership with CentroNía at the beginning of 2016, when we donated hundreds of books to the bilingual library, with strong support from our international membership.

We will continue to support CentroNía with fundraising from this event by purchasing:
Double Strollers
School Supplies (markers, paper, dixie cups etc.)
Diapers and Cleaning Wipes
Cereal
Bibs
Band-aids
Bilingual Books (see here for 2016 Book List)

Learning Garden at Harmony DCPCS Elementary

With our corporate partner, Lowes Hardware, we were able to transform a rugged front lawn area of Harmony Elementary into a functional learning garden. Prior to the improvements the space was known to attract vandals and the weekend before the transformation was the unfortunate location of a homicide. After Active 20-30 and Lowes transformed the space into a learning garden, the school has not seen one incident of crime on their premises.
