My preparations for PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics here in Sweden have already allowed me to progress to an all new level, however to stay in Sweden over the next 12 months I require some assistance. I'm committed to both reaching my goals whilst also inspiring the next generation of champions through my new mentor program.
Over the last 10 years of racing for Australia, I have competed in over 80 World Cups, 1 Olympic Games and soon to be 5 World Championships. My career has been unique to say the least. On the odd occasion I have found bad luck in heavy doses which have led to some tough challenges for me to overcome. I have always given full focus and determination to recover from these setbacks, however the true saviours of my career are the kind supporters who have believed in me along the way. Skiing has shaped my life, I have been so fortunate to live the experiences this sport has given me and been given the opportunity to chase dreams that have become reality. I am so grateful for the support I have received in previous years from the global ski community. Without it, none of this would have been possible.
Over the last 10 months, I have found balance and direction in training. This is predominantly due to relocating to Sweden to work with my personal coach and train with some of the best athletes here in Sweden throughout the Northern Hemisphere summer. I have experienced progression like never before and fortunately this has transformed my results to a new level this World Cup season. Sub 50 FIS points and a 15th place on OPA Cup, a 5th place finish in Östersund FIS International and a 31st place on World Cup have all been personal bests which are all hopefully a sign of what is to come. My focus is completely set on achieving my end goal of a top 30 result in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and I have more motivation than ever to make this eventuate.
Along with the work I completed before I left Australia, I financed this year in Sweden by working in a restaurant. Completing a tougher than ever training load along with working 5-6 hour shifts created a tough but workable schedule. Unfortunately, my working visa here in Sweden will not be renewed for another year which restricts my ability to support myself financially. I will work as much as I can during my short periods in Australia, however in order to make up the difference to allow me to continue working with my coach here in Sweden, I need to ask for your support.
To show my gratitude for the support I am given, I have created a fundraising prize list including a signed and framed Olympic Bib and other Sochi 2014 items. My search for commercial sponsors continues. If you are a company with the capacity of large contributions, and/or product that can be added to the prize lists, I would happily offer you the same proposal as the many companies I have already approached. Additionally, to give back to the ski community and earn the support I am given, I have set up a mentor program for the future champions of the sport. For a 9 month period, I will personally mentor 2 athletes by offering training plan and technique assistance coupled with multiple ‘ski with me’ sessions during various periods. I want to inspire these young athletes and encourage them to chase their dreams. All contributions will help make this program possible.
