2018 100 Miles of Nowhere

Donation protected
Less than a month to go before the best cycling party in Houston in 2018!

This is the sign up for the 4th Houston 100 Miles of Nowhere!

What is it?

A bike race at Bear Creek Park on the west side of Houston on the crit loop, based in Pavilion 7. You get to decide what your category is. I personally have won the fastest fat guy medal before, and the fastest ride organizer categories. I encourage you to invent your best self's winning category!

There will be medals. For real. Yup. Win a race, you know you can!

OR:

A beer tasting  with a bunch of crazy people in lycra riding in circles.

OR:

A fall party with a bunch of your friends or soon to be friends.

OR:

A baking competition.

OR:

ALL OF THE ABOVE!

When is it?

November 11th, 8 am start, 4 pm finish, come anytime in that window.

Why are we doing this?

Beyond the general awesomeness of riding on a great fall day with a bunch of like minded people, eating baked goods, and tasting/quaffing awesome craft  beers we are ALSO doing good in the world! This year we are raising funds for Spina Bifida awareness/research with the funds going to our good friends in the RGV that run the SB250, through their foundation Suzannah Smiles. After covering our ride expenses (shirts, constable, consumables) all other funds raised will be donated to this awesome cause that many in NWCC already choose to support. With Lawson Craddock's amazing journey in the Tour this year and subsequent donations to Alkek Velodrome, we thought we would help out someone new this year!

What do I need to do?

To sign up to ride, just donate a minimum of $10 per rider to this go fund me campaign. If you want to/can donate more, please do. If you donate at least $50 before a TBA cut off date (likely around the end of October) you will secure yourself an awesome 100 Miles of Nowhere t-shirt. It will be cotton, white with black printing, double sided, and inspired by the movie Breaking Away. As soon as I have the art I will post it up!

What happens on ride day?

Anything you like! Some people will ride 100 miles on the .73 of a mile loop. Some won't ride a lap.

There will be a baking competition. This year, 1 baked good per registrant please. Votes will be one per rider/attendee. Some of the bakers doing this year after year have SERIOUS chops. This might be the most serious competition involved! Bake your A game! Recommend that the portions be single serve and easy to pick up and eat for sweaty cyclists for your best chances.

The POS bike fastest lap will return. This year, the bike is going to be a full size, extremely heavy, hand brake adult tricycle! Ride a BAD bike as fast as you can for .73 of a mile!

The regular bike fastest lap will return. Verified by strava/garmin/etc.

The silliest kit/costume contest will return. Ugly/Loud/Ridiculous encouraged!

This seems stupid. Why do people keep coming back to this dumb thing?

Yes, on paper this ride looks like a terrible idea. However, in practice, this thing is a monster of a party! Because the course is so short and open, you can see everyone on the entire course from anywhere on the course. You can ride with your friends that are faster or slower very easily! You can sit on the infield and taunt us, give cookie and beer handups, or just sit and socialize to celebrate the end of the road season or just celebrate friends new and old! Riding and want a break? You can take one every 3 minutes! No judgement, just fun times.

Who are our current sponsors?

Yup, this year we take a step towards the big leagues, we have official sponsors!

Because this is me, and I love beer beyond reason, we have several beer sponsors!!!!! All craft. All fantastic. This event works as a beer event just as well as a cycling event this year!!!

Stepping up to the plate on the beer front:

Austin EastCiders - Lots of delicious cider to be poured, and we will have a representative on site for the event to guide you through them!

Copperhead Brewing - A newer brewery north of Houston in Conroe, one of my PERSONAL faves in the entire area. They don't sponsor much, and don't have huge distribution, so for those on the west side this might be a new one for you!

Sierra Nevada - BIG TIME! National brewery, legendary in craft donating a bunch of delicious Hazy Little Thing hazy pale ale for your hoppy session needs!

Also stepping up is a good friend of mine's company Daiken, helping to cover part of our constable expenses!

THANK YOU ALL TO ALL OF OUR FANTASTIC SPONSORS!

Still looking for more, so if you have any leads let me know!

After all this, what's the takeaway?

YOU should be there.

YOU will have a great time.

YOU will wind up with good stories and better friends!

So, please consider clearing your calendar on 11/11/18 and joining us for one of the best cycling/beer/party events of the year!
