Still Choosing Chicago

Summer Camp 2017 Outreach Fundraising Effort

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” --Martin Luther King Jr.

Still Choosing Chicago aspires to help Chicago Youth survive in the inner city. We will practice Yoga and Mindfulness as an approach to help Chicago’s youth and teens reduce the effects of violence and poverty. We will provide mentoring and jobs for teens. Still Choosing Chicago is seeking donated space, yoga equipment, sports equipment, volunteers, and funding to provide a safe, peaceful, fun, and active 10 week free summer camp for Chicago Youth and Teens.

Our Mission is to provide a safe haven for children in Chicago whose communities are plagued by violence. Our programs are designed to teach youth how to calm down while faced with high levels of stress due to violence.

Still Choosing Chicago currently teaches yoga and mindfulness to 35 children twice a week in CPS after school programming. With your help we can continue to expand our impact in the city of Chicago.  Our goal is to provide 150 Chicago youth with a free summer camp. You can be a part of supporting our Summer Camp 2017 with YOGA & MENTORING Programs for ages 4-18 just by donating the cost-of-one-class ($25) or more, as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy of service and compassion.

•For a donation between $25 and $250, with each $25 increment you can sponsor a Yoga & Mindfulness Class in our 2017 Summer Camp.

• For each $5,000 donation, you can provide part time jobs for 5 teens as youth counselors – to expand our capacity and ability to serve and provide jobs for youth looking for responsibility.

• For each $7,500 donation, you can provide transportation and admission for 5 field trips, for all for 150 youth – to provide a safe and fun opportunity for exploration field trips with activities and games for the entire camp.

• For each $10,000 donation, you can provide transportation, admissions, and snacks for all youth activities to Explore Chicago for ten weeks – to expand the minds of youth on Chicago’s History and Culture.

• If you would like to sign up to donate $25 each month,  you can sponsor a child for a Yoga & Mindfulness Mentoring program for an entire year!

As a Youth Trauma Yoga Instructor and a Chicagoan, I see  Still Choosing Chicago as home for my family, and I would like to provide new ideas and outlets for Chicago's Youth. The most important person in my life as a youth was a volunteer mentor. I would like to provide Yoga, Mindfulness,  and mentorship to our youth this summer on a larger scale, in an effort to heal our city, and we hope that you will join Still Choosing Chicago in providing a summer camp to Chicago's youth and teens this year.

Sincerely,

Stephany Price

It gives me immense pleasure to now introduce myself as the founder of Still Choosing Chicago. I am dedicated to creating opportunities for youth to identify, explore,  and enhance their inner resources so that they may be their very best even in the most stressful of situations and circumstances. As a Chicagoan,  I have knowledge and experience to help Chicago Youth to survive the harsh realities that occur. Chicago’s youth are one of the most vulnerable and overlooked residents,  and I will take all my efforts to ensure that they will have a mentor and guidance.

The most important person in my life as a youth was a volunteer mentor. I would like to provide Yoga, Mindfulness,  and mentoring. Please allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Stephany Price, the youngest of three, was born and raised in Woodlawn. I remember, the violence and drugs that plagued my community and often wondered why. Like most kids, I attended local CPS schools. I joined Chicago Youth Programs in 1996, to escape the violence and explore the diversity of Chicago. My mentor assured me I was going to college, which was the opposite of what I was told in my community.  Subsequently, I studied History and Black Studies at Northern Illinois University from 2000 to 2005.
After college, I worked at Chicago Youth Programs for eight years as a Director for Health and Cabrini Green Programs. I enjoyed connecting volunteers and youth to create long term mentorship. My career highlights included placement of 300 youth in college or trade school in that 8 year span. As a mentor, I always encourages kids to follow a healthy and non-violent lifestyle.
My Expertise is in preventative health work with teenagers, family violence outreach and prevention, policy analysis in the areas of health and childcare, crisis intervention work, volunteer coordination, and special events planning landed me a position as Executive Director for I Grow Chicago in Englewood in 2015.
I hope that you will join Still Choosing Chicago in providing a summer camp to Chicago's youth and teens this year.
