"For a people and a place that have been deemed “Forsaken” and “Desolate,” the prophet Isaiah declares, “I will not keep silent.” From biblical times until today, prophets have refused to be silent in the face of violence and injustice." (   http://www.ucc.org/seven_days_of_mlk )

We will not keep silent.

We, the Youth Forum of Plymouth Congregational Church, will be embarking on a week long civil rights pilgrimage to learn about the leaders and activists who risked their lives for the fight for freedom and racial justice in this country. Plymouth Church has been a part of the movement for justice since our inception and as the young leaders of our faith community we are committed to continue that legacy.

As a predominately white congregation in downtown Seattle, we are deeply committed to working everyday through our faith community to become an anti-racist congregation that is actively working to dismantle systems of oppression and white supremacy.
Our group will be working through a year long anti-racism and white privilege curriculum in our youth forum community to prepare for our trip and to serve as young leaders in the larger Plymouth community.

On April 8th we will be embarking on a week long educational civil rights pilgrimage. We will be traveling across Georgia and Alabama to locations that were the front lines of the civil rights movement in our country; Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma, Anniston and Tuskegee. We will be traveling with a civil rights educational organization, Museum Without Walls, centered around engaging with faith, community and social justice leaders that will help us to connect both past and present fights for racial justice.

We are calling on our faith community, our families and our extended connections to help support with our journey. We have started this gofundme page to help cover the costs for our youth members to make sure that everyone can participate. The per person cost of $2,250 will cover flights, travel, lodging, food, speakers and workshop leaders, as well as admission to educational venues that help support the historical preservation of our country’s civil rights history. For a gift of $40 you will get a copy of our shareholders book which will include essays and photos from our journey. We will also be hosting a shareholders lunch that will include personal stories and a presentation about the trip in May.

As members of the larger United Church of Christ denomination we are committed to "supporting policies and structures that make real our Christian commitment to racial justice. The UCC's emphasis means more than simply challenging personal prejudices, but involves a commitment to in-depth analysis of societal policies and structures that either work toward the elimination of racism or perpetuate it."
