Manierre Elementary | 2016-2017

Quiet Miracle on North Hudson Avenue

In 2013 Manierre Elementary was one of 54 Chicago schools to be closed in the largest public schools consolidation in U.S. history...the school had been on probation the previous twelve years and had a SQRP score of “level three” -- the lowest possible.

Thanks to the efforts of the school’s educators, parents and the community, Manierre was saved.

The last-minute reprieve has not been wasted…when students return to school this Fall, they will be attending a Level 2+ School in Good Standing!

This progress has taken hard work and dedication against strong headwinds. Manierre's student body is 95% low income and students and educators really need your support...please read and/or listen to WBEZ Chicago's July 2016 report on Manierre Elementary here.

Every school year the Manierre funding clock is reset, often downward...we need your help to continue making progress, to continue giving Manierre students every opportunity to succeed.

For the 2016-2017 school year we have set our sights high...here's a breakdown how your donation will be spent:

Fund the second major class trip in Manierre's long history. Students who have likely never left Chicago, let alone flown, will visit 7 Universities and historic sites in 4 cities. This life experience is priceless for any 7th/8th grader!

►FUNDING NEEDED: $15,000◄
-----------------------------------------------

Continued participation in the IDRA Valued Youth Program  which assists in dropout prevention.  Recent budget cuts have eliminated all funding for this impactful program.

►FUNDING NEEDED: $5,000◄
-----------------------------------------------

Provide school supplies for classrooms....keep our educators from having to spend their own money to set up their classrooms.

►FUNDING NEEDED: $2,500◄
-----------------------------------------------

The cost of school supplies hit Manierre families hard...supplies and activity costs have increased 85% for elementary school students since  2007.

►FUNDING NEEDED: $2,500◄
-----------------------------------------------

In addition to donating whatever you can afford, you can multiply your impact by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter as well as emailing the link to friends and neighbors.

This will be a months-long campaign, the need is great and the amount is large. But this is important to our neighborhood, community and especially the kids.

You can...we can make a difference in the lives of 350 middle school students.

Your kind donation is likely tax-deductable, please email the organizer for a copy of the school's W-9 form.

Quotes from student post-trip essays:

"Another thing I liked was when we went to see the two courthouses because someday I want to become a judge. I thought it was amazing sitting in the courtroom."

"Also, to the people who donated to the Go Fund Me page: Thank you so much."

"What I liked about the trip was all the different places we went and everything we got to see. We got to see Lady Liberty. We got to see where Martin Luther King Jr. went to church and where he was buried."

"We got to get on three airplanes and we went on a ferry. I got to get over two fears in one week and I think that was what I liked most about it."

"I also thank the people who donated money to the trip. I dedicate this paper to my favorite principal in the world, Mr. Orr."

"I just want to thank everybody for everything."
