Handicap Access Bed & Bath for Dale

Donation protected
My dad, Dale Precord was a Fire Fighter for nearly 24 years. Helping and caring for others for years. In retirement and suffering from Parkinson's Disease and Congestive Heart Failure it was necessary to move he and my mother in with my family to help care for him. In that neither of our homes was big enough for all of us we moved in to a new one. Although it had enough rooms and a relatively open floor plan, we have found many problems in the two years we have been here. The door from the living room to their bedroom is not wide enough for his wheelchair to get through, and a closet needs to be removed and wider door installed. But even more frustrating is he can no longer walk and therefore can not get in to the master bathroom to use the toilet or the shower. Neither are handicap accessible nor handicap useable. We have had to use portable commode and alternate methods to keep up personal hygiene. As he loses strength it will be harder to deal with these tasks. So we would like to gut out their bedroom and master bath and make it a totally handicap accessible space. In order to do it right the architect would like to add on some additional space to give the proper amount of swing space for the wheel chair. This will also make the LIVING area of their room more liveable. If we get enough money she would like to add a handicap accessible porch at the back of their room so he can go outside in his powerchair when he chooses and not depend on us to makeshift ramps to get him in and out.

Due to the real estate market falling apart back when we were trying to move them in with us - neither of our homes have sold. So, in addition to our current mortgage we are still paying mortgages, etc. on the other two homes. So these badly needed renovations just are not in our reach right now. I so want to make it happen now instead of later when it may be too late to make a better quality life for him.

He could use a new powerchair also, as well as a cross-t bar over his hospital bed to help him lift himself up farther in the bed. In addition there are a number of care giving supplies we are constantly in need of - but don't qualify for assistance in receiving since he does get a pension - even though the majority of it goes to pay for his medical insurance and medications.

So, know that any and ALL monies collected with go directly to Dale's care and well being, and most of all to provide him a better quality life. Giving him some freedom to move about before the diseases take that away from him. I know the funds above seem like a lot. But they are the estimate given by the architect to make it happen. And I thought with all the fire fighters in the United States - if any of his fire fighter brothers wanted to help -- even a $ 1.00 from a fraction of them would help us hit our goal. Can you help Dale get a better quality life for the time he has left on this earth?

Thanks, Cindy (Precord) Ranshaw, Dale's daughter

I modified amount today 1-26-2013. So many told me to put the told wish amount. For doing everything we would like to accomplish -- but the gutted out and reconfigured bathroom is essential. So that is where I have placed it. If we raise more -- we'll do the added items also. If not then - isn't not ment to be. Thanks you for reading. Wishing you a great day!
