Please Help A New Mother Battle Brain Cancer
“Life can change in a second.” We’ve all heard this phrase and pray those changes will be positive ones. For our beloved family members in Ireland, Niamh (Neve) and Richard, they are experiencing this in the most extreme of ways.
Just 10 weeks ago, in August 2019, Niamh and Richard brought their first child into the world..a gorgeous boy named Zach. Of course Zach is the most wonderful gift. He is healthy, happy, smiley and perfect. While in labour with Zach, Niamh lost the ability to use both her arms which left her unable to care for, or even hold Zach. After weeks of testing, it was uncovered that Niamh has a large tumour in the left frontal lobe in her brain.
Niamh underwent immediate life saving brain surgery to remove the tumour. Due to its sensitive positioning, the surgeon could remove only 80% of it. They found some questionable cells which were sent for testing. The tests revealed malignant cells and Niamh was diagnosed with Stage 3 brain cancer called Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a very rare form.
The first obstacle has been to battle through a very difficult recovery, from such an invasive surgery, immediately following childbirth. But Niamh is a fighter. It is this winning attitude and mental fortitude that will see her through the tough times ahead. Niamh’s initial treatment is 7 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week. Following this critical phase of radiation, Niamh will then undergo intense chemotherapy for 12 months.
As you can imagine, this is an all hands-on deck situation. The financial implications of this battle with cancer are real.
In addition to your thoughts, prayers and endless good vibes, the most meaningful way you can support Niamh, Richard and Zach is with a pledge of financial support. Your contributions will go directly to funding both Niamh and Zach’s care, and will aid in funding the treatment plan that will help strengthen and lengthen Niamh’s quality of life. This will ultimately help Niamh FIGHT and BEAT this disease.
