My parents' home was severely damaged as a result of hurricane sandy. It's the same house where my brothers and I were born and raised. Many of you seeing this msg know my parents personally, so, you know that they do not live above their means. They are both retired: my mom cleaned houses and my dad worked for the ny telephone company. They worked hard their whole lives to give us, their children, the best opportunities they could without ever complaining. We have been trying to help them as much as possible (my brother drove from Montana after Thanksgiving, and is doing most of the work himself, with help from the rest of us when we can. I have been dealing with all of the government red tape, helping to organize temporary housing -Thanks, Mr. G!, and doing my best to provide emotional support.). Unfortunately, it's still not quite enough.
I've hesitated about reaching out for financial assistance for their house to be rebuilt because I knew they would resist asking anyone for help. We are in the process of rebuilding now and, as many others facing similar situations know, it is insanely expensive. The money raised will go directly to building materials and/or appliances/furniture. If you could either donate or help spread the word to those who can donate my family and I would be forever grateful. Those closest to my family know 2012 was already a rough year due to cancer, and all my parents want is for our family to be healthy in 2013. It is my dream to see my parents back in the modest home, that they worked their entire lives to keep and call their own. Please, take a moment to either donate what you can or to spread the word to anyone you think can help.
Thank you, for your time, and consideration. Here's to a (hopefully) better year!
