Dave and Jen Watanabe are two of the greatest beacons in our local music community, and two of the most wonderful people you’ll ever meet.

For decades, you wouldn’t ever see Dave perform without his #1 fan: his muse, Jen…there by his side, encouraging him to follow his passion as a musician and helping to spread the musical aloha that has always been the Watanabe Brand,
Jen’s history:
Jen was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in 2009. She underwent a lumpectomy and radiation for her treatment. In 2014 (after losing her sister in 2012 and her father in 2013), her breast cancer returned and she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer which had spread to her right leg. She underwent a hip replacement surgery and had radiation to remove the cancer. In 2017 (after losing her mom in 2015), her cancer spread to her left leg where she had a rod and screws inserted in her left femur and plate and cables inserted in her right leg to stabilize her hip replacement.
Fast forward to today: Jen has received radiation in various places, but, unfortunately, the cancer has spread to her bone marrow. This means that she cannot produce blood and platelets. She has been receiving blood and platelet transfusions every week; however, Jen is becoming weaker and weaker everyday.
She recently developed Bell’s palsy, which has made it difficult for Jen to eat and has only made her become weaker; therefore she is not strong enough to undergo chemotherapy. She is now bedridden and unable to the leave the house except for ongoing medical appointments, which have been difficult. Because of Jen’s illness, she is no longer able to accompany Dave on any of his 30+ gigs each month. This is not only heartbreaking for Jen, but equally devastating for Dave to leave her home alone while he goes to work.
This fundraiser has been established to allow Dave to spend as much time with his beautiful bride as he can, while also helping to offset some astronomical medical expenses.
