Dad’s Diabetes Service Dog
Donation protected
My name is J McGrath. I am a 44 year old Father & Husband, living in Northern Kentucky.
For the past 35 years, I have been living with Type 1 Diabetes.
While I have been able to maintain relatively good control over this ridiculous disease, the years are beginning to catch up with me. At this point in my life, I have become almost completely desensitized to low blood sugars. I’ve attempted to regain control with the help of a Constant Glucose Monitor in the past but, due to various complications, I am currently at the mercy of nearly around-the-clock finger sticks for my blood glucose monitoring, with nearly dire consequence.
So I am now chasing a dream that, due to the high cost, I had always assumed impossible to achieve: finding & adopting a Diabetes Service Dog. With the assistance of a well trained Service Dog to alert me to high, low, as well as rapidly changing blood sugars, I might be able to stay around long enough to fulfill a second dream: raising our fantastic kids into wonderful adults, & keeping my best friend (& Wife) happy for years to come.
These highly-trained animals can cost up to $25,000 to obtain & train, so that is my goal.
Thank you in advance for any help you could afford, as well as your time & consideration.
