Have A Heart For A Heart: Ramiro's Story

Donation protected

2 weeks ago our lives were changed forever.

Oct 15, 2012  - My 9 year old nephew Ramiro was thought to have had pneumonia....it was not.

Oct 17, 2012 - Ramiro was thought to have had myocarditis (an inflammation of the heart)....it was not.

Oct 18-19, 2012 - It was determined that Ramiro has cardiomyopathy...his heart is defective and pumping at only 15%.

Oct 26, 2012 - Ramiro has been placed near the top of the heart transplant list.

We are all still trying to grasp the situation. One day there is a "normal" healthy boy running around, going to school, playing jokes on everyone, and of course loving his family, and within 2 weeks we have a sweet boy who is in a fight for his life.

My sister has been by her son's bedside since this began and like most of us, by the end of the year, she has used up all her sick time and vacation time.  At  this point finances are the last thing on her mind, but a necessity none the less to cover what insurance does not, ongoing household expenses, to be able to take her daughter out for a lunch date when she comes up for the weekend to visit her mom & brother, or whatever she may need.

What we ask for most of all is prayers for Ramiro and of course any donation is very appreciated.

Updated: November 1, 2012 - Ramiro has received a precious gift of life. Words cannot even describe our gratitude to the donor, the donor's family, the surgeons, the transplant team, the nurses, and all the people involved in giving Ramiro a second chance. Nothing but thankfulness and love today.

November 7, 2012 - Ramiro is doing well.  He no longer has his breathing tube, doctors have moved him to oral meds, but he still gets exhausted easily.

Through it all, his mom has been by his side.  At this point, there is not a certain time line when he can go home, but it could be up to several months. When he is released from the hospital they will move to a transplant living facility.

Thank you for your kindness, thoughts, prayers and donations
