I NEED YOUR HELP TO REACH MY GOAL! Hello, my name is Daylen. For those of you who may not know me personally, I am a 12-year-old Life Scout. I set a goal for myself to reach the rank of Eagle by the age of 13. I am currently working on a Leadership Project that is required for the rank of Eagle Scout. That is why I need YOU!

The project I have selected is a CHILD SAFETY FAIR. It will be held November 17, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. CST at Norman Binkley Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee. The address is: 4700 West Longdale Drive, Nashville, TN 37211. I know that there are some people out there who might not have been exposed to certain types of safety information AND children need to be educated on the ways they can keep themselves safe, also. The TNChip program www.TNCHIP.org has graciously offered to partner with me for this project. They will provide child identification kits which include not only fingerprints, but hair and fingernail clippings for DNA samples that can be given to law enforcement in the event a child goes missing. I am arranging for someone to take photographs of the children to keep in the kits, as well.

I have arranged for Poison Control to have an information booth. They have provided some great materials that show just how many medications look like candy to children. There are other items, as well. The Metro Police will be there, the Fire Department, and The Red Cross will be there. The Red Cross will have information on upcoming blood drives, infant/child CPR, and they even have a Certified Babysitter Program!

The Animal Control will be there to talk about animal safety, Southern Hills Medical Center and Walgreen's will be there to talk about many aspects of health and safety, with information about their walk-in clinics.

There is going to be a Passport to Safety program at this expo. Each family that arrives will receive a passport booklet. When they have visited and received information from each section, they will receive a stamp in their passport. There will be an emergency preparedness kit for the first families to get this passport completed. How many will depend upon how many donations of items I can receive and/or funding to purchase the items needed for these kits. There will also be expenses involved in being able to photograph each child present for their TNChip identity kit.

Won't you please help me educate the community on these things. You never know...teaching just one child about fire safety may save his/her life. Teaching one parent about safety with medicines or chemical cleaners could prevent a needless child poisoning. Donate today... you never know whose life you might be saving!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!  Thank you, in advance, for any donations you feel moved to give to this project.  I am excited to help educate my community on child safety.
