Navy Veteran Battling Cancer

Donation protected
MICHAEL C VANDERSCHAAF
BMCS USN RET.

This GoFundMe account is in support of a retired U.S. Navy Veteran Michael Vanderschaaf.  In 2014 Michael was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer.  He underwent chemotherapy but unfortunately the cancer has spread to his liver and kidneys, greatly making life harder in his last days.  With surgeries ahead, ongoing cancer treatment and medication expenses adding up, we are asking for donations for this brave veteran.  Michael is continuing to serve his country by traveling back and forth to multiple states, on his own dime, to be a host and speaker for fallen veterans.  With Christmas right around the corner we ask for your help with providing a peace of mind during this time of uncertainty and financial hardship.

Michael's military service of 24 years of active duty includes 17+ years sea duty (6 ships, Drill Instructor, worked on subs, taught school for the Department of Defense).  For the last 7-8 years he has conducted memorial services for fallen veterans both locally and on the east coast.

My name is Ryan Borchik, and I have known Michael for about four years. Becoming friends with Michael has become a life changing experience. During these last few years I realized the importance of commitment, dedication, honor and discipline.  I have never laughed so much or prayed so much.  I know I have made a lifelong friend.  I feel honored to be able to help Michael, whose lifes' purpose was to serve.  He wrote a blank check to The United States of America for an amount to and including his life.

We certainly appreciate ALL donations that you are able to provide to Michael.  As a thank you to those who have donated $50 or more to Michael's GoFundMe account I will send a FREE decal, please contact us through this GoFundMe account or Facebook.

If you are unable to donate to Michael financially we would suggest sending a "Get Well" card to him to show your appreciation and uplift his spirits during this trying time.  Please contact Ryan at Seaside Graphics for address.

"Too many people today don't understand what a VETERAN is and what it means to BE a VETERAN! Well let me tell you- a VETERAN, whether Active Duty, Discharged, Retired or Reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life wrote a blank check to The United States of America for an amount up to and including his/her life! THAT IS AN HONOR!! THAT DESERVES RESPECT!! Our debt to these HEROIC men & women can NEVER be repaid! They have EARNED our undying GRATITUDE!! When you see a VETERAN today~ say THANK YOU for your service and SACRIFICE!!" - Leeanne Locken
