Emergency Medical Surgery

Donation protected

It all started in 2008, when I began having unbearable stomach cramps. I went to the hospital a few times, but was sent home with only painkillers. The doctors told me that nothing was wrong with me.  As the years went on, I continued to have pain. In 2011 I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance; I thought I was having a heart attack. The results of my Cat Scan showed a lump in one of my breasts. A few weeks later it was removed.

I continued to have major pain in my stomach though. I became really worried when I saw that it was actually swelling. I began to wonder if the problem was due to my birth control Miraina. Therefore, I went to my doctor and had them remove it. This did not solve the problem though. My stomach actually started to hurt worse and began getting bigger and bigger. One morning I woke up and I couldn't move. I was stuck in bed until my husband was able to get home. He took me to the ER right away. The nurse thought that I was pregnant. That is how big my stomach had gotten. Even after telling them that I wasn't, they still did not believe me and insisted on testing me. Of course, they found out that that was not the issue. After they ran some tests, they discovered that I  had a growth in my stomach the size of a soccer ball which weighed 8 lbs and another growth on both ovaries. I ended up having them all removed in an emergency surgery. The doctors believed that this was a one time occurrence, and that I should not have an issue with this in the future. I did not have insurance at this time, and the bills from it have been overwhelming.

My family and I thought that my health was going to begin getting better, and we started just trying to pay some of these medical bills. We were sadly mistaken. Recently I started feeling light headed and my stomach was in excruciating pain. I could not stand the pain any longer, and headed to the ER once again. As before, the doctors just sent me home saying that there was nothing wrong with me. It seemed like I was reliving the previous year. I returned to the hospital two more times before they finally discovered another growth forming on my ovaries. Since I do not have medical insurance, few people are willing to even give me the time of day. The ER doctors want me to see a specialist, but every doctor I call wants the money up front. I cannot even get an ultra sound from my OB without paying hundreds of dollars to them. I have tried to apply for Medicaid, but keep getting denied. I have attempted to work with the hospitals and doctors office's financial departments, but nothing seems to work. I am being told that this can become a life threatening condition if not taken care of. I have two children and a husband that need me. My kids not only need their mom here, they need her healthy. I cant afford to have another surgery do to my financial situation. I still have unpaid bills, and now I'm being turned away by doctors. I am running out of options. I am told that my situation is an emergency, but every where I go the door is closed in my face. I am reaching out to anyone who is able to help me.
