Bemidji'15 Cal Ripken World Series!

$3,730 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 73 people in 31 months
The 10 yr old Cal Ripken team from Bemidji needs financial help!!

The team won the Regional competition held in Nebraska, and will be playing in the Cal Ripken World Series in Jonesboro, Arkansas!

The team has already spent the entire summer travelling almost every weekend to compete, and recently travelled to Nebraska where they earned the right to compete at the Cal Ripken World Series. In addition to winning the regional tournament, they were honored to receive the Norm & Colleen Travis Sportsmanship Award- a high honor indeed.

The team leaves on August 6th, to make the 1000+ mile journey to represent Minnesota and their region- it's a huge honor and a once-in-a-lifetime event, but it comes with a similarly huge pricetag. It's estimated that for each player and two parents to attend, it will cost over $2,500! The families are already cash-strapped, and need help to get this team to the Cal Ripken World Series.

This GoFundMe campaign is to cover LOGISTICAL costs only- it will NOT be used for sight-seeing, extranneous activities or frivolous expenses. All funds raised will go to the families to reimburse them the cost of seeing their sons represent Bemidji, Minnesota, and the Region at the 2015 Cal Ripken World Series.

Even if you can only spare $5, every little bit helps.

Please feel free to share this on social media, and help these kids follow their dreams.

If you have any questions, or would like to help out with sponsorship, please visit Bemidji Youth Baseball League on Facebook and leave us a message. We welcome the opportunity to hear from you and help these young men.

Thank you for your time.

Bemidji Youth League Baseball
10 yr old Cal Ripken Team

This GoFundMe page was set up by Lainie Hiller at the request of the Bemidji Youth League Baseball 10 yr-old Cal Ripken Team. Absolutely all funds raised will go to this team (less % for GoFundMe).

Lainie Hiller receives nothing but a warm and fuzzy feeling for helping out. :)

This will be the last update from me, Lainie Hiller, as I have turned over the management of the page to the BYLB, so that they can withdraw funds for the team.

I was approached at very short notice late last week to help with fundraising, and I know that there are mixed opinions in the community regarding fundraising for various sporting ventures.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and mine is that if I'm asked to help out, I will do so to the best of my ability. Those who know me, know my thoughts on matters baseball-related :)

I believe this campaign to be a success, and I was assured that the funds raised will be used purely for logistical and travel expenses- I trust that this will be the case.

I wish these kids nothing but the best of luck as they go forward to the Cal Ripken World Series and represent us all. To these kids, it's the trip of a lifetime, and they are oblivious to politics, opinions and all else as they just want to play ball, to win and to lose with grace and sportsmanship.

From this point forward, the page will be managed by BYLB. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. A reminder that the team will be at the Mark Evenson fields tonight as they board the bus to the Cities at 8:15pm; they will be escorted by the Bemidji PD and FD.

Play Ball!

Thank you to all who have sent me emails in defence of Jason Niemi's contribution to the coaching staff!

Please accept the apology to Jason Niemi and his family, in that he was completely and innocently omitted from the listed coaching staff of the 10 yr-old team that is travelling to the Cal Ripken World Series later this week.

Those who know me, know that we do not have children on this team, and can be assured that all mistakes made were innocent and a result of very tired people working very late into the night to maintain information on the GoFundMe page.

Again, Jason and his family have made just as many sacrifices as the rest of the coaching staff on the team, and contributed in a similar fashion.

Josh Zellman has been keeping the books for the team, and updating the Game Changer information, and whilst he is not a coach, his contributions have been, and continue to be, appreciated.

Also omitted from the complete lineup were the two bat boys who suit up each game- Heaton Brodina and Quinn Niemi. Lastly, it should always be acknowledged that while the official coaching staff receives recognition, the families of the coaches AND the players always make sacrifices during the season to see to the success of the team. Thank you to EVERYONE involved, and I appreciate your forgiveness and understanding in this totally innocent omission.

WOW- we are literally DOLLARS away from the next goal of $3,000!

The team, along with coaching staff Jason Brodina, Chris Corradi and Josh Zellman, head out of town TOMORROW night, leaving the Mark Evenson Fields at 8:45pm with Police and Fire departments escorting.

The team is taking a bus to the Cities, where they have an early flight out to Jonesboro, Arkansas on Thursday morning to get them to the 2015 Cal Ripken World Series.

It's not too late to help this team with travel costs- we've had some anonymous donations, as well as some very generous donations from friends, families and even complete strangers! It doesn't matter what makes you feel the most comfortable- every single cent counts.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed!

Check out the article in today's Bemidji Pioneer- great quotes from the kids!

I've just learned that the team is now FLYING to Arkansas (even more cost involved!!) and there is a sendoff for them tomorrow (WEDNESDAY) night. If you're interested in seeing them off for their big journey, they arrive at the Mark Evenson fields at 8:15pm to board the bus to the Cities, and then are escorted by the Police and Fire Departments at 8:45pm.
