LGBTIQ Internet Resource Center, Uganda

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community in Uganda is actively oppressed by hostile social beliefs and draconian government policies that oppress an already poor community in a country with very expensive internet. This effort is to raise funds to start an internet cafe in conjunction with the outreach efforts of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Uganda. Reverend Mark Kiyimba runs a school and orphanage near Masaka, and is a leader in the campaign for LGBT rights in Uganda. He was recently in the U.S. to accept the Virginia Uribe Award for Creative Leadership in Human Rights from the National Education Association for his advocacy efforts.

The Reverend has been working with LGBT activists and has already organized a building and compound that will be the site of the Cafe. The money raised will be used to install the infrastructure: network, computers, wiring and internet connection. Any money raised beyond the goal will be used to pay for the internet connection.

By donating to this project you can help give a voice to a severely oppressed population and take a step to support equality for LGBT people in Uganda.
