HELP A SISTER OUT

Donation protected
Last year my sister had a son.  It was a bittersweet day.  When welcoming her son into the world, she nearly died.  Due to a life threatening condition, during her C section she lost all of the blood in her body and at one point found herself experiencing surgery with no anesthetic.  As a result, she ended up in the ICU for 4 days.  The hospital was ill prepared for a situation like this, and they ran out of blood for her on 3 occasions.   It was a terrible and trying time to say the least.

Because of her medical trauma she has severe PTSD and long term chronic health issues in her pelvis/bowel area that cause her chronic pain and require more follow up.

She is also a single mom of 2 with no support network who is unable to work a full time job.

My sister ended up in this situation because the medical system in rural communities are very often not set up for people who have complex medical needs.  She now finds herself trying to get herself on the other side of it in a place that is not set up to help people like her.  It’s frustrating and sad for me as an outsider, and I can only imagine how much worse it is for her.  Her psychiatrist attests she has the most severe case of PTSD they have seen in over 10 years.

The therapists and counselling that might be able to help her long term are not covered by medical and anyone who is experienced enough to help a case like hers can’t be found in her own town.

We have heard amazing things in regards to EMDR therapy being able to help people with PTSD and really want to help her receive treatment and regain her life again.  In order to get EMDR, she will need to drive 1.5 hours each way to the next town (Prince George).  She also needs to cover child care while she is in session.   We are reaching out to our extended networks for support to help cover this cost.
She doesn’t have a reliable vehicle to make this journey, so we are also trying to raise funds to help put towards vehicle repairs or acquiring something smaller for her to make these trips.

EMDR therapy for acute PTSD

Projected cost of treatment- $125 a session / 15 sessions -  $1875

Projected cost of childcare- $675 - $1125 (depending on if she can get treatment when her oldest son is in school)

Gas to and from Quesnel to Prince George to make doctor’s appointments-  $40 each way=  $600

With the costs of therapy and wanting to help out in the vehicle department if possible, our fundraising goal is: $5000

We’re not able to disclose much more as to the situation that got her here, but are filing a complaint with the college board of physicians in regards to the circumstances that got her to this point.

I will be raising her situation to local government once election season is over.  My sister didn’t end up here through her own negligence, but the negligence of a medical system which heavily let her down.

In BC, people in rural communities pay the same MSP fees that folks in the city do, and yet it’s far more common to see a lack of adequate care in these places.

Please feel free to share with your own networks.  It's greatly appreciated. Anything raised will be directly used to help my sister to help herself.
