12 Families lose their home in Fire

$1,635 of $130,000 goal

Raised by 24 people in 22 months

I started this go fund me account on behalf of my Sister, Sherry Thamez, as well as the 11 other families that lost their home and all their belongings to an apartment fire on the morning of Aug 5, 2017. THANKFULLY, everyone, including their pets, were all able to escape unharmed, but these 12 families have lost everything. I made the amount $130,000 in hopes that we can raise enough money to give each of the 12 families involved at least $10,000 each (plus covering any Go fund me fees). It won't be able to replace an entire home's worth of things, but it is a start at finding new housing and items for it. Whatever the account brings in, it will be split among all 12 families. May GOD BLESS you all who are able to donate, and those that cannot, please PRAY for them!!! THANK YOU!! Please share this campaign!!!!!

From Megan Kruger, one of the 12 Families Affected by this fire:

It's been a whirl wind and I've never cried so much in my entire life. But as I came back to work and settle into what is my new normal I need to sit and reflect and say thank you to so many!!
The fire departments- 4 minutes...that's a hell of a quick response. That and your tireless effort kept the fire from being worse than it was.Another shout out to Craig Anderson for holding the door for me to get out. And Eric and Johnny for rescuing the beloved monkey...Ashtyn can't thank you enough!!
Clean up crew- I don't know how we would have gotten it all done in 5 hours with out you!!! Christine Tatge Molly Smith Marshall Tatge Joanie Stenzel David Tatge and Gordy and Jean Kruger. As well as all the volunteers from the community who helped out.
Michelle Lacher and Taylor Lacher- No words can be said about the things you have done for so many people. The time you have put in organizing and delivering donations. Not to mention helping with moving people out. You truly are a rare breed and this community is lucky to have you and your family a part of it!!
Becky Schultz- You work fast lady you had that go fund me page set up in snap!!!
Everyone who donated anything- You have no idea what piece of mind you gave so many of us. As much as you may think a toothbrush, box of diapers, or a stuffed animal is no big deal. To us it was everything when we quite literally had the clothes on our backs and nothing more.
My coworkers- You picked up extra hours on short notice and that in itself gave me some time to process this whole ordeal and start cleaning up the mess.
Wells- The community response to this has been beyond wonderful. Peoples State Bank, the churches, Subway, and the list goes on of people who have donated things, places to stay, money, and even a helping hand. Words can not express how wonderful it is to have the whole community rally around us to make this whole thing just a tad bit easier.
And to anyone I may have forgotten- You are not forgotten by any means.
This has been a great time of loss for us but we have also gained so much from every one of you who has surrounded us with your selflessness. I am truly greatfull and blessed for each and every one of you and your kindness. Your kind words, hugs, whatever has helped make this dark time a little brighter!!!
Most importantly Im thankful to be able to sit here and write this. My daughter has been getting lots of time with her cousins. My husband has been doing more than his fair share of laundry. We didn't lose everything and have have things that are left that just need to be cleaned. And my cats are safe and sound at my parents. We are fine but we will be ok....one day at a time we will be ok. I can't say I won't probably still cry and wonder why us. But each and every day we will re-build and find a new normal. I have met some wonderful people that I will forever consider a part of our family!!! From the bottom of my heart Thank you to everyone!!!

First off I am sorry I haven't been able to get back to many of you. The last two days have been very tough on us all. These 12 families had to go into a horrible mess. I tried to focus in on the worse one and that was tough because so many were beyond what I had thought. One tenant Sherry Thamez and I went in and could only salvage a couple things it was her great grandfather's bible. Everything around that Bible was ruined and when we handed it to her and the case and Bible was spared we all knew exactly who was taking care of these families. Another tenant Jennifer Bixby came out carrying her wedding she was so happy and when I held her in arms she just shock and and said this was the one thing I couldn't lose. Another tenant had to leave behind everything all he had is gone. Another family I helped was trying to salvage things including a couch that was his father's who passed away, it was a beautiful sectional couch. He also had to make the terrible choice of taking his sons favorite pokemons plush toys and Five nights and freddies or leave them behind. They are unsafe for his kids to use. Also no liquids, foods, bathroom supplies, or fragances are safe to use. There are so many other heart wrenching stories. Things families need all of you and appreciate all of you in ways you cannot comprehend. We as a southern Minnesota and even two states by the ocean have stepped up and these people have calm in their hearts because of all of you. The first day we moved stuff out tension were high people were so stressed and within a half hour I saw hurting people comforted by complete strangers who put themselves in harms way to help these people get there stuff out of a dangerous building ( we were all warned up front of danger), we had people skip there lunch hour to come help. As the day wrapped up i saw calm hearts. These families will continue to need us down the line and each need will be addressed as they let us know. Please continue to pray for them. I am also going to add the bank information for the families in a document and Becky Schultz Go fund me page. Thank you for everything

After confirming with the apartment complex, the number of families that lost everything was 12 families total. We were initially incorrect at the total amount with all the confusion during this horrific fire. With all the water and smoke damage, they not only became homeless, they lost all their belongings. Please help them start to rebuild. GOD BLESS YOU!!
