The Ephrata Fair, the largest street fair in PA, is celebrating its 100th milestone in September 2018.
While the original concept in 1919 was to celebrate and welcome home our WWI soldiers, it has grown into a five-day event, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. More than 50,000 spectators line the streets to watch the much anticipated, annual two-hour parade which winds its way through the community and includes at least 20 musical units ranging from high school marching bands to string bands.
The fair is open to all, with no admission gates and no event charges. It is governed by a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. While appealing to all ages and lifestyles, the Ephrata Fair has stood the test of time and is unique in its variety of offerings for all. The estimated nearly $300,000 in proceeds raised by civic and charitable organizations during the event each year returns to benefit the community in a variety of positive ways.
For many, the Ephrata Fair has become an annual tradition, not just to those in the Ephrata Community, but in Lancaster, Berks and Lebanon Counties as well.
Funds necessary to hold this annual event come primarily from generous sponsors, and shrinking state funding. Special 2018 activities are planned to honor the past and celebrate the future with additional expenses estimated at $50,000. The fair board is reaching out for supplementary assistance to fund this time-honored tradition, and enable Ephrata to commemorate this remarkable milestone.
