100 Pink Flamingos

Donation protected
New stretch goal!! Any extra funds will go towards covering expenses for the party PLUS purchasing an adult sized slip-n-slide! We will be giving away a flamingo to anyone that brings over a succulent or drought tolerant plant.

Any extra extra toppings will help us fix up our little front yard with some drought tolerant low water plants!

Please help me raise $400 to purchase 100 pink flamingos to improve the appearance of our front yard and help our community end neighborhood bullying and end passive aggressive notes for good.

I was so excited to receive a letter in my mailbox from a neighbor! Was it an invitation to a party? We are still brand new to the community of Los Osos and have been hoping to make new friends. We purchased our very first home and moved in January and have been making non-stop expensive updates since. All of you know that this is no small deal in this day an age.

To my horror this is what I found when I opened it:

It reads: "Hi, this is a friendly request asking if you could please do something with the condition of your yard. For many many years the property has been an eyesore from neglect, and we were so excited with the time finally came for major improvement. However, from the looks of the yard, little has changed. Hopefully you can care a bit more and try to deal with the weeds etc. Thank you, your neighbors"

Not going to lie... my soul was a little crushed. Didn't they see the new siding, the updates to the deck, the hours we spent staining the wood to get it the perfect tone, the brand new garage with trendy mod paint job? The adorable eco friendly solar lights leading up the the entry way? The laughter coming from the home filled with friends and family dinners? I would say this is an improvement after being told that the previous owners had squaters paint swasticas on the property and that the rooms were filled with rats.

Here is what the home looked like before we moved in (all trees were rotten and had to be removed):

Here is our home now (not a lot going on but super clean!):

Please help us end neighhorhood bullying and passive aggresive notes for good by raising enough money to adorn our lawn with 100 pink flamingos.

I have no doubt in my mind that this would overjoy our neighbors by the hardwork we have put into it. I wish we could afford another 30k to redo our yard - but that is just not feasible after scraping enough money together to get the house and fix it up. I have already been making a plan for a super beautiful drought tolerant low water landscape. My dream is to have natural grasses and self sufficient plants that support our local eco system. But since that has to wait - the only thing we can do for now is END NEIGHBORHOOD BULLYING AND PASSIVE AGGRESIVE NOTES!

This is only possible through community support and the satisfaction of improving "an eyesore from neglect".

Our supporters will be invited over for a lawn party with lots of yummy craft beer to celebrate when we reach our goal. Maybe we will even set up a slip and slide on our front lawn sand dune. ROCK ON!

Fun Fact: The pink flamingo is the national anti-bullying animal. A symbol of symbiotic relationships.
