1000 bricks for education

"1000 bricks for education"

From August 4th till August 13th I cycled around Europe in order to raise awareness about access to education in Ghana.

The purpose of this journey is to support the "Yonso Project Model School " that intends to provide access to education for children and young people from rural areas in the Asante region of Ghana (Jamasi). Although education is a right for every child, quality education in Ghana is the privilege of the few. Usually a privilege that only children from well-earned households are entitled to.

The second part of my project will be to go to Ghana in October to help build a school, meet with the community of children and organise a bike tour in Jamasi.

The construction of the school was laid in mid-October last year. And will be completed early 2019.
Nevertheless, the project needs a little help and support! You can help me raise money for the construction of the, by donating "bricks" - every brick you donate will be used for the completion of the school.

The goal is to reach 1000 bricks which would contribute to 1/8 of the total number of bricks needed for the completion of the school.

1 brick = 5 euros

In total we would like to reach a total of donations of 5000 euros.

Donators over 500€ will have the chance to have their names engraved in the front mural of the school. All other donators will have their name attached to the history of the school.

The donations will be collected in a German NGO (my Boo Ghana Education e.V.) that is supporting the Yonso Project Model School from the beginning. The money will be transferred 1:1 from there to the Yonso Project in Ghana. If needed the my Boo Ghana Education e.V. can create a donation receipt for all donors donating more than 100€.

The "The Yonso Project " aim is to change this situation and supports education by providing good education for an affordable price to enable as many children as possible to go to school and follow their dreams. To help the parents to finance their child’s education, a microfinance system splits the school fees in multiple lower payments, instead of fewer but higher ones, that need to be paid as one, as it is common practice in Ghana. By doing so, the parents are enabled to put some money aside every week and pay per semester. Children from very poor backgrounds are awarded with scholarships, made possible by their local bamboo bike frame production.

The company my Boo  is supporting this project by providing me a bike made out of Bamboo.

All my Boo bamboos frames have a unique story to tell: each frame is manufactured with loving handicraft in Yonso, a small rural town in Mampong district of central Ghana. The unique frames are produced by a skilled team through their local partner, the Yonso Project—a nonprofit organization and its bamboo bike workshop Boomers.

A little bit about myself :

I am 30 year old entrepreneur, art promoter and sport enthusiast. Born in Belgium and now based in Berlin.

I have been organizing bike tours for the past three years. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. I always wanted to open it more to the world and contribute to a social project.

Earlier this year, I met the my Boo team in Berlin and I directly knew they would be the best partners for my tour as they are already contributing to the development of local fair working conditions in Ghana, producing sustainable bike frames made out of bamboo.

Their involvement in The Yonso Project was the right project for me to support as it connects my passion for biking with providing education for children and fair working conditions. I am also happy to be using a bike made from a sustainable material (bamboo).

Thank you to my Boo for supporting this project and being my main partner.

I also want to say a BIG THANK YOU to the other partners that actively support my bike tour :
