Our dear friend Marc Mascaro has been hit really hard lately. At 34 years old, Marc was at the prime of his life .
This past December 13,2014 he was feeling sick and went to the local hospital. Immediately, the doctors were concerned. Initially the doctors thought he might have tuberculosis but after getting test results the diagnosis was changed to Testicular cancer.
Marc was to begin chemotherapy within a matter of weeks. The cancer was so aggressive his vitals plummeted and his lung collapsed because his tumor count had quadrupled. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick NJ and put in intensive care for 23 days while he received an extreme High dose of chemotherapy. This particular chemo was given in 4 stages. Unfortunately this treatment did not get rid of the cancer completely and the cancer started to return. He will begin a bone marrow transplant on July 16, 2015. This type of treatment consist of 5 stages. The first 2 stages Marc has completed in the month of June in which they take stems cells from his bone marrow and freeze them to prepare for the last 3 stages. The first of the 3 stages will begin July 16 and he will receive an intensive high dose of chemo for three days which will kill his immune system and on the fifth day the doctors will put his frozen stem cells back in his body hopefully to build his immune system.This will keep him in the hospital for 21 days. After which he will be home for a couple of days only to return to the hospital to have the procedure repeated. This will be done a total of three times for a total of 3 months.
Marc has been out of work for 7 months and besides his medical expenses his family is struggling to pay the monthly expenses.
