Rio wants to listen

Rio was diagnosed with a severe to profound hearing loss at 15 months. He passed his new born screening test so this comes as a suprise to his family. We probably will never know the real cause of his hearing loss but the largest chance is a side affect to a antibiotic that he received via IV when he was born. Rio is a candidate for Cochlear Implants and authorized for surgery. Rio's family has full health insurance but the provider has excluded Cochlear Implants and hearing aids from their benefits package. Rio's family has applied for CCS, a program that funds childrens medical needs, but they have denied coverage. Rio's family now has limited options. The Hospital has said that if they can pay cash for the procedure the cost will run around 45K. Rio will be 2 next month and what he wants for his birthday is to hear the sound of his mothers voice and  birds churping outside his window early in the morning. The earlier children get Cochlear Implants the better success they have with them, which puts a huge sense of urgencey for Rio. Please help Rio get access to sound for his birthday!!
