WE LOVE COLLECTED WORKS

Collected Works, Australia's only specialist poetry bookshop (inside the beautiful Nicholas Building), was broken into last night. I went by today and the look on the owner's face broke my heart.

It's not easy to run a bookshop in this day/age/town (especially one as niche as Collected Works) so I imagine this is going to affect them greatly, both financially and emotionally.

I thought it would be nice to raise a bit of money to help them recoup some of their losses, and let them know that they are hugely supported and loved.

As The Lifted Brow said, "Collected Works is at the centre of Melbourne's literary culture, in more ways than most people realise, and even the thought of this incident endangering their existence is too hard to bear."

If you would like to include a little note to Kris, the owner, please let me know and I'll include it when I give him the cheque. I will write the names of everyone who donated, too.

This is a super informal fundraiser, and Kris doesn't know about it. I just want something positive to come out of this awful incident.
