Youth B.O.T. stands for Youth Building Our Tomorrow. We’re a group of volunteers who plan, design, build and then host a robotics game for high school students in Northeast Indiana.
Our mission over the past 10 years has been to give these young adults a fun, hands-on robotics competition schools can do at little to no cost for the schools or their students.
What We Need
Our goal is to raise at least $2500 to build this year’s field components, update our game field, and to buy additional VEX robotics kits so more youth can engage in our project-based STEM competition. All adittional funds raised will be used to purchase kits and supplies for future teams.
Why We Need It
Youth B.O.T.’s funding has disappeared. A corporate relocation has left us without a corporate sponsor. And without funding, Youth B.O.T. cannot continue to update and upgrade our field or buy new VEX kits for new teams.
Brief History of Youth B.O.T.
Youth B.O.T. was born in 2005 when a group of volunteers decided we wanted to give high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the areas of STEM. So we created a robotics game that would challenge young people to solve problems and strategize as they design, engineer, and build a robot for our competition. Each November, Youth B.O.T. reveals the next game we have designed. Students are then given time to design and construct a robot.
A season of Youth B.O.T. consists of 1 practice day in early January, then 4 competitions held once a month from January through April, culminating in our championship rounds during our final April meet. A typical season will include 12 teams from various high schools in Northeast Indiana. Between competitions, teams are encouraged to rethink their strategies and redesign their robots if needed. This is an important aspect of our competition since we feel strongly that the opportunity to correct and improve designs mimics real-world problem-solving.
