Preventing Youth Homelessness

Director and team member of Reality Estate Agents, Norwich, Lucy Carne & Adam Thompson will be taking part in this year’s Total Warrior race on Saturday 24th June 2017, in Leeds.
They will be raising money for local Norfolk-based social enteprise, Your Own Place CIC, who support young people in transition to adult life. Lucy has been supporting Your Own Place for the last 3 years and has watched it grow and grow into the success it is today.
Your Own Place works with young people who through no fault of their own are catapulted into independence before they are ready. This puts them at high risk of future homelessness - which is terrible for them and bad for all of us that want to live in thriving and prosperous communities.
In 2016 Your Own Place leased a real council flat from Norwich City Council. Many partners were incredibly generous in setting this up, including Ikea, BT, B&Q and many more. In The Tenancy Training Flat they now train young people to actually cook a meal, read the electricity meter, meet the neighbours, learn to budget and be great tenants!

The courses in The Training Flat cost money to run. Like the young people they support, they have utility bills to pay and day-to-day running costs. They want to keep hold of this fantastic and unique resource and be able to train young people there.
