Hi,
I'm Kristen's & I'd like to share a part of my journey. I am a 32 year old from Windsor, Ontario in Canada.
A year ago I started getting sick, the doctors kept thinking it was pneumonia. X-rays were taken but somehow they missed the lesions that were the beginning of my lung tumours. As time went on I became more ill, I saw a doctor again, they saw the lesions & required more testing. Dec 16 is when I learned the news I dreaded to hear. I have been diagnosed with stage 4 ALK lung cancer, and with the time going untreated had spread to my brain. My family have brought me home to be with my family & friends during this time.
In the Fall, travel expenses have increased having to go to Vancouver, from Kitimat for tests. I have started treatment for the cancer, which not all the medication is covered. The cancer is starting to physically wear at my strength & appetite preventing me from working. I have no medical benefits for her many prescription medications and no income for my living expenses. My family has pulled together and have been helping me as much as possible. OHIP has finally activated and there are other benefits I will be able to apply for, such as Trillium Grants. BC Health Insurance covers my Doctors, tests, and cancer treatment until then.
