Rick Shannon

9/25/1958 to 7/4/2015

As many of you know, Rick Shannon (Nick Manzi) passed away early July 4th - Independence Day, in the comfort of his own home and under the care of his children after a very short fight with a long time un-diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer that metastasized to his liver along with acute renal failure. Things took a turn for the worst June 22nd, 2015 and Rick unfortunately never recovered. In these tough times we ask that you make a donation to help out the children and granddaughter he left behind. They will be taking over the mortgage on his house and other bills. He has worked his whole life for this house and we WILL keep it in his memory!

Below you will find a retrospective of Rick's life.

Rick Shannon was a Sacramento radio icon, both on the air, and in the production studio. He and his voice will be missed.

Rick (Nick) Shannon started his career in Radio at KOBO radio in Yuba City California. It was a dream come true for Rick to be working in radio

...In his own words "After a year and a half of learning my craft at KOBO Yuba City (the alma-mater of a great many major-league jocks), Dave Camper, whom I idolized since '72, called me with thrilling news: the mighty KROY in Sacramento was interested in hearing my act in consideration for a weekend gig. ACT?! My "act" consisted of "The Basics" and occasionally hitting a post or two."

Rick left KROY in 1978 and and went to work for KSLY in San Luis Obispo where he worked on-air and as a Music Director at just 19 years of age.

In 1979 Rick returned to KROY and served as an afternoon on air and Music Director.

Shannon worked several radio stations and groups including KOOL 101.9
