Help Kristen get to Nursing School!
I have resisted the urge to crowdfund. But today I swung by a camera shop with my beloved DSLR to get a price quote on it (a whooping $300.) and I decided that maybe now was the time.
A lot has happened in the last month! Where do I even begin? I was accepted to a school in the mid-west! Which is SUPER EXCITING! I was approved for the DCTag grant which will help me pay for school AND I am going to get some financial aid (and then polish of the rest with small student loans.) the same week.. I lost my full time job, (and by extension. My health insurance!) Like any Millennials living in the big city, I had a second, side job, which I was using as fun money, that has now become my main source of income.
Also like a Millennial I use app-based "do it when you can" job called Postmates. I have been running around the last three weeks hoping to make ends meet with my job at the comics shop, and working for Postmates... and well.
After today when I went to the pharmacy to pick up 90-day supplies of the medications I take to help control my Lupus . I realized that I am going to need some help if I am going to make it to Utah this fall. I need to not be shy about asking for that help.
If every person that follows my blog were to donate $1 I would beat my goal more than 10-fold (and not have to take out a loan for school!) If everyone who follows my twitter, or was friends with me on facebook donated $5 I would meet my goal exactly.
The goal here is pretty simple. Have enough money for a deposit + 1st months rent on a new apartment, a pet deposit so I can bring my Pup Xerxes with me, (which is looking to be about $1600 if I decided on this apartment complex I've been eye-balling.) and enough money to buy some pretty essential things that I don't already own like... a bed.. (Yeah. I don't own a bed.) Though I am not above sleeping on the floor.
I also need some extra money for things like gas to get across the country (or a plane ticket. Which ever ends up needing to happen. I am hoping to finance a sturdy clunker to get me across the country, and to use through school.) and to make sure I can keep affording my medication !
I am going to Utah this week, (July 1st-6th) on the graces of good people, so that I can look at apartments, visit the school and really get a feel for things!
My savings account right now is meager. I have *just* enough to get to Utah.. Which totally worked and was awesome.. when I had a full time job. I have to stay in DC at least another 8 weeks, and if you didn't know. DC is friggin' expensive. But at least here - I have a job. A job that is enough to cover my rent.. sort of.. And not much else.
I had a yard sale last weekend - where I made $300, and plan on continuing to try and get rid of things I don't need. But I am at the stage of considering selling things like my camera (which I use to make $$$ Last year alone I made over $2k as a freelance photographer ! Yes, I am avaliable for hire if you are in the DC area and need photography services!) and my bike . Which I don't want to do. But I will do that if thats what it takes.
Everyone who donates is gonna get a thank you card in the mail, a couch to sleep on if you ever find yourself in Utah, and unlimited cuddles and Netflix time with me, and my dog, if you want.
