Arme Smash's Broken Ankle Fund

I broke my right fibula in two places during a roller derby game Saturday afternoon.

This is the first bone I've ever broken. After 31 years of horseback riding, rock climbing, motorcycle riding, and roller skating, I finally have my first broken bone. I guess it had to happen sooner or later. It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought having my foot point straight to the right would.

I didn't cry or scream. I was joking with my teammates while the medic was splinting my ankle. I got hugs before I got on the stretcher and yelled at my teammates to play well for me as they wheeled me out to the ambulance. I spent the whole ride to the hospital telling the EMT how awesome roller derby is and how the local team is always looking for EMTs, and they get to watch the game for free.

The hospital was pretty routine. They took some X-rays, put me under for about ten minutes, and when I woke up my foot pointed the right way again. They wrapped me up in a soft cast and told me to call an orthopedist first thing Monday morning. I need metal in my leg.

I'm going to be off-skates for months. This is going to suck.
