Karen's Road to Recovery Expenses

Donation protected
On June 24, 2015, 30 year old Karen Robbins and her 10 month old son were traveling northbound on I-65 to meet her fiancé. Construction traffic came to a standstill, in which Karen was stopped behind a box truck. The expectant mother heard tires squealing and looked in her rearview mirror to see a semi approaching her with excessive speed. The semi didn't stop, hitting Karen's Nissan Maxima, lodging it under the box truck. Karen and her son both had to be extricated from the mangled vehicle.

Surprisingly, Karen's son came out with only minor seat belt burns. However, Karen had to be air-lifted to University of Louisville Hospital with severe internal injuries. Upon arrival, it was determined that the left side of Karen's body sustained the majority of her injuries. Besides fragments of glass sticking throughout her body, she is covered with cuts and bruises. In addition, Karen suffered a broken collarbone and 10 broken ribs, in which a chest tube had to be inserted to drain blood off her lungs. Also, Karen's left ankle was fractured in multiples places, requiring the first of possibly many surgeries to come. This was an open fracture, putting her at risk for infection and maybe limiting her mobility.

Besides all of these injuries, Karen who is 30 weeks pregnant, started having contractions and dilated 3 cm, as a result of the impact of the accident. Therefore, she has to be closely monitored in labor and delivery.  Besides worrying about the health and wellness of her and her unborn, Karen is uncertain when or if she will be able to return to work. Also, her fiancé and mother have been off work to be by Karen's side and to care for their 10 month old son. This is causing a burden on her family's finances as bills continue to accumulate while she is recovering. Please keep them in your prayers and any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.
