It could be said of Steve Boe that he is a big man, even after losing over 300lbs he still has a commanding presence. Steve has the biggest heart of anyone his friends and coworkers could have the pleasure of knowing. As a District-Coordinator for Farm Bureau Steve goes out of his way, above and beyond in his efforts helping Farm Bureau Members successfully represent agriculture and to develope leadership abilities in those that he reaches out to. When the Alma Center Lincoln School District lost their Ag instructor Steve stepped in using vacation time, weekends and after hours to help the school maintain their FFA program. Steve managed this hectic schedule for two years until a new teacher was hired.
All of us that know Steve can reflect on the positive ways that he has touched our lives.
When Steve reached over 500lbs he made a life changing decision to lose weight and get physically fit. Steve accomplished a major turnaround not through surgery, or other expensive programs but through determination to control calories and exercise. As a result of his efforts he no longer needs blood pressure medicine and can outrun most people at a 5k event. The challenge Steve has is that now that he has lost the weight he carries with his new smaller body the skin that previously encased his large body. While Steve underwent all of the effort to get a healthy body with shear determination potentially saving his insurance company untold dollars in health expenses and medication. After all of his efforts he will not be covered for the needed skin reduction surgeries as these surgeries are concidered elective Steve already had one surgery in December and is planning a second one in early winter. The cost of the surgeries combined are in excess of over $31,000.
