A very big THANK YOU to all who have supported and donated to this campaign over the last months! In case you haven't heard, the ROUTE 34 DRIVE-IN THEATRE updated to digital a few weeks ago; and the picture and sound are amazing!
Unfortunately the drive-in's financial goal was not met, so even though they had to proceed with the purchase of the new equipment in order to keep the theater going, they are still in need of funds to pay for it.
So we will be continuing our gofundme campaign through this 2016 season, in hopes of getting Ron closer to the payoff of this wonderful new equipment!
In case you don't know what the conversion was about here is information from the original campaign:
For a couple of years now, Ron and his friends have been raising funds to be able to convert to digital projection and SAVE THE ROUTE 34 DRIVE-IN THEATRE.
Due to movie companies ceasing to put movies out on film, the Route 34 Drive-In Theatre MUST convert to digital format which means booth and equipment changes and upgrades. Ron has made the building improvements necessary, but is still trying to raise and save enough funds for the cost of the projector itself.
A 'drive-in rated' digital projector (meaning bright enough to illuminate a drive-in screen) is a $70,000 investment!! Smaller indoor projection systems are not able to be used. This is a devastatingly huge expense for a small, single owner theater which operates on a tiny budget, without much leftover at the end of the season.
Through this GoFundMe campaign, Ron's friends hope to raise the $$$$$ necessary to save our local piece of Americana! The Route 34 is a treasure trove of good, old-fashioned, family fun! Drive-ins are pieces of our history that are disappearing all too quickly around the country.
