Mo Bat Census Bat Rescue & Rehab

Thousands of bats are orphaned or injured requiring rescue in the United States annually. With continued population devastation in North America from White Nose Syndrome, urban sprawl, loss of habitat, wind energy and other sources, we believe saving any bat is important. In an effort to support this Missouri Bat Census has expanded it's bat rescue and rehabilitation statewide. Although this is not a small endeavor, we believe it is invaluable!

We are seeking your support in caring for the over 30 neonate pups and injured bats currently in care. It costs approximately $250 to care for an orphaned bat until its is capable of returning to the wild. Some injured bats can require even more.

Although our goal is to return each bat to the wild, we have 10 bats in permanent care. They are our educational ambassadors, some being unable to return to there native range due to WNS exposure such as Sally, our Pallid Bat and Freedom, our Mexican free-tail bat. Others have suffered permanent disability like Snaggle, the Big Brown bat who has lost a foot and teeth after an auto collision or Heidi, the Hoary bat and Timmy, the Red bat, whose wing damages render them unable to fly and forage. These bats cost $1200 per bat annually to support.

Many of you know Rocky, our 1.3 gram neonate preemie big brown bat pup, rescued still attached to the umbilical of his dead mother, hanging from a gash in her side presumably made by a cat.
