Helping Families with Sick Children

Please help us reach our fundraising goals.  Each year Almost Home needs to raise upwards of $260,000 to maintain our home-away-from-home for families with sick children.  We are not government funded and receive no regular funding.  We need your help.

Almost Home is a charitable organization, operating in Kingston, that provides temporary accommodation to families whose children are receiving medical treatment in Kingston area hospitals. Families are asked to pay a fee of $10.00 per night but no family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.  

Many families must travel a distance to receive treatment at Kingston-area hospitals for their ill or injured child. When a child is receiving treatment, the healing process can only be improved when a child is surrounded by the love and support of their family. At Almost Home, we understand this and we strive to enable families to stay together during these difficult times and focus on getting better, together. We provide a comfortable and caring environment – a temporary home-away-from-home – for families to get a much needed break from hospital surroundings. Whether they are looking to rejuvenate or to relax, whether it is for weeks, days or an hour, Almost Home is a source of relief that families with sick children have come to rely on.

Almost Home was incorporated in January 1991 and has been operating in the Kingston community since November 1992.  Over 4,300 families have stayed or made use of Almost Home because they have a sick child receiving treatment at one of the hospitals.  Although a referral is not required for families to use the facilities, Almost Home regularly receives referrals from hospital social workers at Kingston General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital, and from doctors’ offices in the surrounding area.
