In Need of A New Insulin Pump

I’m Chris Drew. I’m a 39 year old Type 1 diabetic in need of a new insulin pump. The requirements of my insurance company have currently put this out of my financial reach. As a result of my diabetes going undiagnosed by physicians throughout my teens and 20’s, I am completely insulin dependent, suffer vascular degeneration, neuropathy, swelling of the heart, retinal vein occlusions (blood vessels bursting behind my eyes) and my A1C is at 13 (normal is 7). As my body doesn’t produce insulin, I am dependent on my insulin pump to regulate it for me. This physical downward spiral can be held at bay with a new pump.

After seeing several doctors in recent years, I was finally able to see an endocrinologist who tested the pump I currently have. It failed. She was appalled to learn that I have been wearing the same pump since 2007. I was informed that I should have had a new pump ever 2 years but no one had ever told me. The one am wearing now is 8 years old and no longer functioning properly.

I have insurance but my deductible and co-pays have put this out of reach. The longer I wait, the more my health deteriorates. I am putting this out there in hopes that I can raise enough money to simply cover the cost of a new pump and supplies. I am grateful for any amount you may feel lead to donate. Thank you.
