MIGHTY HEART HOLISTIC CENTER
You probably imagine that in St. Thomas, the heart of America’s Paradise in the US Virgin Islands, everything is---well---paradise! Yes, the water is glorious, skies blue, clouds puffy and white. And we have an incredibly diverse population that manages to live together in relative peace.
But the stresses of modern living are taking their toll. Our social services are frayed at the edges from lack of funding. Families are falling apart from untreated dysfunction. There are no services left for people coming out of drug and alcohol rehab. And the incessant transiency from being a tourism destination lessens the sense of sanctuary that would bring peace to many of our year-round, long-term residents.
My name is Gail Glanville. I’ve been working in the alternative and complementary wellness field for the past 15 years. I’m starting the Mighty Heart Holistic Center because a friend of mine has recently died at his own hand. Had he been able to get the care he needed, I’d like to hope he’d still be alive today. I’m starting this center because I want a peaceful place to make my sessions available and affordable for more people like my friend. I have other holistic professionals who want to join me once I get started. We’re all concerned about declining options for wellness on this beautiful island. And we know the Mighty Heart Holistic Center will make a difference!
Why are we turning to you and crowd funding? Because we need a jump-start! The tourist season is done. The local government is deeply in debt. Money for projects like this one is scarce on this small island. The money I’m asking for will fund a website and flyers to get our initial schedule of classes, sessions and seminars out there. To rent a larger space and put some chairs and tables in it. To hold a complementary and alternative Health Fair so more people learn of our affordable services and can be helped.
Here's another reason why. As Elie Weisel said: “If I cannot do good for others, then why am I here?”
