Y.W.W.D. "Young Women With Dignity" is a young ladies group for ages 11-18 (typically middle & high school). We focus on support, encouragement, motivation, education, advisement & fun! Our mission to instill the leadership, education & confidence in our future women citizens and leaders!
We have conducted yearly seminars that include team building activities, education, testimonial speakers, an artistic or cultural activity, a discussion panel, food, gifts, prizes and fun. Our 2014 theme was "Loving The Skin I'm In", 2015 was “L.I.F.E.-Living In Favor Everyday”. Our recently completed 2016 seminar themed “Be-YOU-tiful” was held on July 9, 2017. In March 2018 we held the 4th annual seminar themed, F.L.Y. "First Love Yourself".
We have also hosted other activities for free or at a low cost. We created a Prom Package Essay Contest that was awarded in March 2016. The submission topic for the essay was, “What is true beauty”. The grand prize winner received $250 for or towards a dress of her choice, hair by Charly's Unisex Salon, complete makeover by an makeup artist/aesthetician, gift certificate to Extreme nails, flowers/corsage from Chesapeake Nurseries, mini photo shoot by Simply Imagery Photography and more. The contest also included second and third prize winners. Second prize included hair by Jyspirations and complete makeover by an makeup artist/aesthetician and choice of a dress from our inventory. The third prize included a complete makeover by an makeup artist/aesthetician, jewelry set and choice of a dress from our inventory. We also sponsored a Tutu Crafting Day with Fancy Tutus of Salisbury in August 2016 and a Mother-Daughter Paint Day in September 2016 with local renowned artist JonBrick Art.
We have a successful track record since 2012 for the community area that typically does not have these types of support groups outside of various religious organization settings. All of our former activities were made possible by our board members and donations. The leaders of YWWD consist of parents, educators, college students, counselors, clergy & volunteers. The group has grown from a few & one coordinator with a vision to over 55+ young ladies in attendance, a Board & volunteers; the need is also growing. We seek donations for maintaining the seminar series, group meetings, trips, materials, meals & other support.
