This is 8 month old Willie J (William John Blake), born May 27th, 2014. As you can see he is as precious as they come.
Around the time Willie J was 5 months old it was determined that the circumference of his head was increasing at an alarming rate. It was suspected that he may have fluid in his brain, hydrocephalus. An MRI revealed there was fluid present and also a small tumor that was causing a blockage. A shunt was required to be surgically implanted to help drain the fluid. Due to the location of the tumor, surgery to remove it was not an option which lead to chemo therapy.
During this time, Willie J started having seizures and required hospitalization. For over a month Willie J he has been in the hospital undergoing extensive testing and was recently diagnosed with Alexander disease. This is a very rare and incurable disease that effects the nervous system. While some children perish in the first year of life, some may live 5 to 10 years.
Willie J is currently awaiting surgery to have a feeding tube implanted as he cannot eat normally.
Through all of this Willie J has been a fighter.
Willie J has two very loving parents, Will and Kim, and a 6 year old big sister, Deanna. Kim has been staying at the hospital with Willie J while doctors continue to run tests and determine the best course of treatment.
The family is facing an unimaginable future. Kim and Will are doing everything they can to make sure Willie J has a chance at living a happy life but will need financial help. Once Willie J is released from the hospital he will require around the clock monitoring. Medical equipment will need to be brought to the house. Surgery, doctor visits, testing and medication are sure to cause an enormous strain on Kim and Will.
We are asking that you please help this wonderful, loving family in their pursuit of giving Willie J the best time on earth that God will allow.
