Westminster House Meal Program

Donation protected
Westminster House Society is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide residential addiction treatment for women through integrated social recovery, education, and wellness.

Every month Westminster House serves approximately 3800 meals a month to clients, alumni, and families. That's well over 45,000 meals a year! Not including special events like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Gratique.

Westminster House is raising money this Holiday Season for the Meal Program.

The right foods boost happiness, increases mental functioning, helps maintain the appropriate body weight and prevents specific illnesses. Being able to provide meals for our clients with quality ingredients is extremely important.

Alcohol – impedes nutrient breakdown and assimilation resulting in nutritional deficiencies.

Opiates – can cause gastrointestinal issues, withdrawal can lead to nutrient depletion.

Stimulants – Suppress appetite which can lead to an insufficient intake of calories and nutrients.

A person in addiction is less likely to be concerned about eating healthy. In most cases, the need for the drugs or alcohol is more important than the need for a balanced nutritious meal.

Research shows that eating healthy can go a long way toward the road to recovery!

Proper nutrition helps the recovering process by making people feel better. Nutrients give the body energy, help build and repair organ tissue and strengthen the immune system.

Nutrition also plays an important role in mood. Changes in diet can alter brain structure both chemically and physiologically, and influence your behavior.

Not only is well-balanced meal good for your body, sharing a meal with others is what starts that feeling of connection and the feeling of isolation begins to disappear.

At Westminster House, we encourage families and alumni to stop by the house regularly especially during meal times and have a meal with new women and share the message of recovery.

Westminster House program is growing. We have more clients, more alumni and families at Westminster House than ever before.

Please donate today and help us keep our doors open at meal times for not only for our clients but for our community.
