A massive explosion at the West Fertilizer plant rocked the small town of West, TX at 7:50pm on April 17, 2013. 14 people have lost their lives, many are injured, and the town itself has suffered substantial damage.
There is going to be a lot of help needed in this town we're hoping to relieve some of the financial burden by raising funds in the city's honor. 100% of all funds raised will be donated
.Please help spread the word and donate if you can.
West's population was 2,674 at the 2010 census. The town is located 19.3 miles north of Waco, Texas and 70 miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.I've been asked why I set this campaign up.
After feeling so helpless Monday after the Boston tragedy, this tragedy hitting really close to home inspired me to get something started for the people and city of West. I went to college just south of West (in Georgetown, TX) and frequently stopped in town on my trips back to Dallas for food and to chat with a friend who owned a store in town. West has a special place in my heart and I felt like I needed to step up and help. I was also inspired by the stories of GoFundMe campaigns set up for the Boston Marathon victims going viral and thought this would be a good place to get this up and running. I set it up pretty quickly last night and spread the word through one of my twitter accounts where I have a pretty good following and reach. I am working with a couple of people to find the best place for the donations to go.Where will the donations go?
At this time, the best suggestion has been the Red Cross, but I am hoping to find somewhere that we can directly infuse donations to. I am sure that there will be word in the coming days on where donations are needed. I am in contact with people with direct connections to West and will be working with them to find the answer to this question asap and will be updating the page as these answers come in. If there are any suggestions, please contact me.
