Lets Fix Up the Outdoor Classroom

As the Scientist in Residence for the West Bend School District one of my first jobs is to get the outdoor classroom up and running. Getting students outside and making connections with nature is a huge passion of mine. Once the outdoor classroom is in better working condition more students will be able to come out and explore the beauty of the natural world.
The outdoor classroom is a permeant building that has a large classroom space, bathrooms, heat, a garden, and access to trails. The trail system covers an approximately 30 acres of forest, wetland, prairie, and has acces to Quas Creek.
One project already completed! The forest loop has gravel laid down by the SEED Club. Three loads of gravel were donated by West Bend Sand and Stone.
However, the Outdoor classroom has a few setbacks. The space itself is not conducive to outdoor education and we are in need of new tables, chairs, and materials. The existing tables are covered in swear words and the stools are not great for younger learners. As for materials we need some basic tools to help kids explore and learn about the natural environment. This includes nets, soil probes, thermometers, books, clip boards, bug boxes, binoculars, and microscopes.
This is a big task but I believe that with the support of the West Bend Community we can get this classroom up and running. It can become a place students remember going to and are excited to return to each year. Thank you in advance for your support!
