Sarah and Patrick Houston with Wander Like Water (YouTube) are about to embark on a bicycle tour down the Mississippi River to connect you with one of the most important watersheds in the United States.
Our GoFundMe is setup to offset the cost of water quality test kits as well as some living expenses during the trip. The Mississippi River is the drinking water source for over 18 million people, touches 10 states and its watershed covers more than 40% of the United States. We want to create a connection to the River that so many have lost!
Because the Mississippi River is such an important conduit for the water cycle, we plan to test the quality of water as we travel from the headwaters of the River in northern Minnesota down to New Orleans, Louisiana.
We will be interviewing people with unique connections to the Mighty Mississippi and bring you local knowledge of the health and wellness of the river and populations that rely on it. We want to know if the quality is changing and how the local treatment facilities are keeping residents safe.
Traveling by bicycle means we have a lower than normal cost of living. Our food is our fuel, and the occasional camping site or motel make up the majority of our costs. We want to go above and beyond and bring raw data on water quality to our YouTube and GoFundMe communities. Water Quality Test kits will be used to test drinking water in various municipalities as well as water samples collected directly from the River at strategic points.
