Literary Video Game

"Deuteragonists" is a sarcastic, self-aware roleplaying game wherein a player of any gender (the game acknowledges female, male, and transgender identities) plays a writer with writer's block who must rebuild a library and restore its inhabitants by traversing six unique provinces and collecting 100 works of literature.  Along the way, the writer examines the very nature of narrative itself while forming relationships with authors of the past, characters from classic lit, historical/folk characters of the world, and even former protagonists of this very story.

The game features a customizable library hub; witty dialogue and humor; a full RPG system with leveling, attribute points, and special abilities; multitudes of player choice for replay value; challenging word games and puzzles; a battle of Shakespearean insults; multiple possible endings; appraisal and crafting system; encounters with witches, pirates, and vampires; and appearances from authors such as Virginia Woolf, Herman Melville, Emily Dickinson, Lord Byron, and Geoffrey Chaucer.

My goal here was to create something that adults can enjoy, yet something that you'd introduce your teenage daughter to: a brainy, inclusive experience that combats the "macho" nonsense that plagues the gaming world today.

As a bit of an in-joke, the monetary target is roughly what an adjunct professor (like myself) makes for teaching a single course.   I made the game using time I gained from losing two courses this past semester.

The game will be playable for free (after paying $1 for the Avatar Legends builder, none of which goes to me, as I'm not affiliated with them) once beta testing is done later this month.  Thank you.

Special thanks to Laura, Vanessa, and Ian for the support.
