Help Aama Ghar

"We are far more accustomed to - and comfortable with - seeing women portrayed as victims of war who deserve our sympathy rather than as resilient survivors who demand our respect" Gayle Tzemach Lemmon.

Today I saw a video about Aama Ghar, a residential home run by Ms. Dilshova Shrestha, who started helping elderly women after her husband of 28 years left her for not being able to bear any sons and took all their money saved for their daughter's wedding. After reaching her lowest point, she and her daughter contemplated taking their own lives but decided not to do so. She started visiting an elderly women abandoned by her sons and started caring for her. Since then she has opened her own house to frail elderly people who are abandoned by their family and have no place to go other than sleep on the streets. She started providing shelter, food and care to four, five people and now she cares for more than 85 people. She also cares for children who were affected during 10 year long civil war in Nepal.

Ms. Dilshova is a true essence of 'Aama' , an unsung hero. By just watching her video, we can feel her true passion of 'giving' and her unconditional love towards others in need.

I hope we can all come together to donate whatever amount we can for this wonderful cause and for this inspiring Aama.

Thank you very much.
