This is my wife's cousin Luchy. She is a very determined and strong spirited young lady living in the Dominican Republic. Her smile masks the harsh reality she and her family (two sisters and her mother) are going through since her father (my wife's uncle) was murdered several years ago during an armed robbery. Her mother has not been able to hold a steady job, and most other family members help her in any way they can, just that they are not in such a position to significantly aid them in the most pressing issues, such as education needs, medical attention, etc.
So some of us in the family are pooling resources to make a significant contribution and we are turning to the internet for help to ease the load.
The money will be going towards covering for her 12th grade tuition school supplies and equipment for the year, amongst other necessities. This is a far cry from pulling her and her family out of poverty, but should help her finish her high school education and continue along a path of progress.
