Hi - My name is Ariel. I live in Los Angeles, and have been a close friend of Warren for nearly 30 years. Many of you I know personally, some of you I know by name, and others I don't know at all. But one thing we all have in common is our dear friend Warren.
As many of you know, and some of you may just now be learning, Warren was recently diagnosed with lung cancer which spread to an area around his sciatic nerve, the source of chronic pain and discomfort which he has been experiencing for the past several months. The good news is that he now has a great team of doctors at UCSF Hospital putting together a treatment plan, and wonderful friends like all of you to wish him well and pray for his speedy recovery.
The bad news is that he is not in a position financially to take care of some of the day to day stuff, including setting himself up for a smooth and comfortable recovery in his own home. When radiation and chemotherapy begin, it will most likely and often be very difficult for him to get in and out of his mattress on the floor, prepare his own meals, and even go up and down the stairs to get out of his apartment. I am asking all of you to help out in any way you can, including reaching out when he may not be "up" enough to ask, but also to contribute anything you can to a recovery fund.
One thing Warren needs quickly is an easy-to-use fold down sofa-bed that will alleviate having to get in and out of his current mattress on the floor, as well as make more room for him to continue his astonishing work in Poupeeville, and also create a more conducive environment to receive visitors (hint! hint!) Other useful items would be a small refrigerator and microwave in his room so he can easily cook meals without leaving his apartment. He is also working on finding much needed better housing and moving costs money.
