Wow! Thank you so much for you kind words and donations to Monica. It's been one week today since her diagnosis. Yesterday she met with a Dr for a second option who confirmed her diagnosis. To say the week has been a whirlwind for her is an understatement.
She found out from the doctor she will be on 2 or 3 meds that will have $400 range copay per month each. This was eye opening as this is just one treatment plan. When this fund began the initial goal was set to just get the ball rolling. After discussions with doctors, other cancer patients and loved ones who have cared for a cancer patient we feel we can better assess the financial needs she will incur in her treatment plan. We are raising her goal to $50,000. We hope you will continue to spread the word and keep the prayers coming as Monica begins her treatments next week and starts the fight of her life! Monica Beakley, at 42 years old, has been diagnosed with Stage IV Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer.
This devastating diagnosis would be hard for anyone to grasp. In Monica’s case, she has not only herself to consider but her son, Jakob, whom himself at 9 years old suffered life altering injuries after a boating accident in 2009 that left him blind and with physical challenges and limitations.
Monica has been Jakob’s number 1 advocate and now she is facing her own illness that will require tremendous strength and will.
If you know Monica personally, you know her story the last 6 years has been a tough one. After her son’s accident, she lost her home, her dog, many of her belongings and the ability to work any regular job due to the needs of her son. She has barely scraped by and only by the grace of God has a roof over her head.
Simply put, Monica needs financial support. She would never ask on her own. That is why we are asking on her behalf. Monica will need things the next few months that she simply cannot afford on her own. Basic needs like food and medicine.
